Allen Tarbox, 71, of Aberdeen, passed away on January 25, 2025, at the Roslyn Care Center. A celebration of Allen's life will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Furness Funeral Home in Clark at 11:00 a.m. Casual dress is requested by the family. A meal and time of fellowship will immediately follow the service. Burial will take place at Prairie Hills Cemetery in Bradley, SD. Visitation will be held the evening prior, Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Furness Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., with a time for sharing of memories from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the Tarbox family requests that donations be made to the Prairie Hills Cemetery, Aberdeen Fire and Rescue, or your local Humane Society.
Allen Henry Tarbox was born on September 16, 1953, to William and Maxine (Brown) Tarbox. He grew up on the family farm by Bradley, SD. Allen attended Thorpe School through eighth grade. He started high school in Bradley and in his junior year he transferred to Clark. He graduated from Clark High School in 1971. He worked several jobs, but in 1973, Allen took over the family farm after his father became too ill to manage it. He became head of the household and farm to three younger brothers and mother after his father's passing the same year. In 1977, his brother Vernon took over the family farm and Allen worked for other farmers and ranchers while doing some farming of his own. His greatest love was watching the fields develop, bringing in the harvest and delivering and watching the baby calves. In the late 1980's he moved to Aberdeen and worked for Mardian Recycling. He moved to Sioux Falls in 1992, where he found a love for woodworking. He worked in a cabinet shop among other jobs until he returned to Aberdeen in 2001 to be closer to his family. He worked for Lien Transportation and Hase Plumbing until 2010 when he had to retire due to health reasons. In 2001, he met Barb and they married in 2004. They continued to make their home in Aberdeen where Allen continued to do woodworking as able. His hobbies including woodworking, researching his genealogy through Ancestry and spending time with his grand kids. He loved attending sporting and music events with his grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments.
Allen is survived by his wife Barb; daughters Renae and Angela; grandchildren Amelia and Dezilyn; brothers: Roger, Leroy (Mary), Kenneth (Patty), Vernon (Chris), Rick (Theresa) and Daryl (Cleo); brother-in-law Kenny Waege; and numerous neices and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents William and Maxine Tarbox, William and Clara Wendel (parents-in-law), aunts and uncles, sisters Barbara and Marlene, and granddaughter Rebecca Hoops.
