Allen Kretzschmar

Allen C. Kretzschmar, age 78, of Raymond, SD passed away at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown, SD on Friday, June 3, 2022.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Carpenter, SD with Pastor Fawn Lamb. Lunch will follow in the Church's basement. Interment at Pitrodie Cemetery will be announced at a later date.

Allen was born to Carl and Helen (Spaniol) Kretzschmar, February 5 ^th , 1944. He was united in marriage in the St. William Church in Yale, South Dakota to Harriet Nelson.

Allen grew up in Hauge township, went to Country School, then to Willow Lake High School. After graduation, he joined the National Guard.

He worked as a farm hand, Elevator employee at Cavour, Milbank, and Willow Lake. Allen also started a career of water well drilling out of Huron, South Dakota where he eventually became the owner. He was certified in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Nebraska.

Allen was an avid hunter of coon, deer, gopher, rabbits, elk, antelope, pheasant, duck, goose, and grouse. He loved to fish on the lakes or out at the river. His passion was muscle cars, going to Marion drag strip, stock car races, and at times was found going onto a black top to race a quarter-mile with his Superbee.

When he was in the shop; 60s music or country western was on the shop radio; with cigars burning and a diet coke getting warm.

Every kid got to go to Carpenter on Saturday to have cheese balls and chicken strips at the Carpenter Cafe.

Grandpa's favorites were diet coke, donut holes, and William Penn Cigars. "Shop door Open" he was home and ready to visit.

Allen was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, parents, brother Lyle, and sister Sharon.

Allen is survived by his wife, Harriet; his sons: Dave – Krissy (Grewe) – Ali – Helen - Dawsyn, Mike – Amy (Mahlen) – Chasity (Jordon) – Chess – Chance, Terry Ray – Benjamin – Julian – step daughter Lindsey, Troy – Michelle – Levi, Jamey – Melanie (Whetzel) – Lindsey (Sean) – Tripp – Memphis – Kyle – Shelby (fiancé), Joe – Emily (Cunningham) – Dylan – Drew – Kadance – Dan – Evan - Aiden; and daughter: Lisa – Jay (Lloyd) – Jakob – Thomas – Samantha - Jimmy Lee - Rachel aka The Boss. He is also survived by his brother, Larry "Buck" Kretzschmar.
