Alice E. (Madsen) Heim, age 89, of Clark, passed away May 14, 2025, at Avantara in Clark after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church of Clark on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Randy Bader officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Furness Funeral Home in Clark from 5:00-7:00 PM. Burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Alice (Madsen) Heim was born in Clark on June 19, 1935, the third child to Alfred and Edna (Bobzien) Madsen. She grew up on the family farm northwest of Clark along with her older brother and sister. She attended country school through the eighth grade at the Hess School walking from the farm to the school when the weather was good and getting a ride with her father in a grain wagon pulled by a team of horses when the weather was not good. She attended Clark High School, graduating with the Class of 1953. She was baptized and confirmed in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a member of the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clark.
Upon graduation from high school, Alice began working at the ASC office in Clark, saving her money to bring electricity to her parents' farm home. She married Orville Heim on March 19, 1955. To that union, two children, Cynthia and David, were born. Alice and Orville raised their family on the Heim farm southwest of Clark in Darlington township. Following the death of Orville in 1986, she moved to her home in Clark in 1987. In 2019, she moved into an independent living apartment at Wookey's in Clark, and in December of 2023, she transferred over to the assisted living side where she resided until moving to Avantara Clark in February of 2025.
When told by her doctor her time on this earth was nearing the end, she replied, "I'm 89, and I've had a long life. I've always worked. I always loved working." And she did enjoy working! She worked many years outside the home from the time she graduated from high school until her retirement in her late seventies. She worked many years in Clark at the courthouse and later in life, commuted to Watertown each day working at Brown Clinic. While on the farm, she worked in town during the day and in the evenings and weekends, she worked at home. She always had a huge garden and did lots of canning. When her family was young, she sewed all of her and Cindy's clothes. She took great pride in her beautiful flower beds, loved mowing the lawn, and she found time spent pulling weeds relaxing!
After moving to town, she learned to relax a little. She enjoyed following the many activities of her grandchildren. None of them lived nearby so she spent many hours on the road traveling many miles to watch them participate in their various activities. She also enjoyed getting lost in a good book, watching a good movie, getting together with friends for a good game of cards and a cup of coffee, and watching the Cyclones play basketball. She loved to cook and bake and looked forward to hosting holiday meals for her family. Nobody ever left Grandma's house hungry!
Alice is preceded in death by her husband Orville in 1986, her parents Alfred Madsen and Edna Madsen Temple, sister Darlene Jongbloed, brother Cecil Madsen, step-father William Temple, nieces Mary Krueger, Marlene Kayeska, Carol Kratcha, Carla Jean Jongbloed, and nephew Normal LeRoy Jongbloed.
She is survived by her daughter Cynthia (Tony) Simon of Ipswich, son David (Kim) Heim of Madison, grandchildren Courtney (Justin) Davis, Michael (Brittney) Simon, Jordan Heim, and Allison Heim, great-grandchildren Brody Davis, Ava Davis, Edy Davis, Emma Simon, and Ty Simon, brother-in-law William Jongbloed, Jr., and life-long high school friend Delores Fox.
Family would like to thank Dr. Douglas Olson and his staff at Brown Clinic, the staff at Wookey's Assisted Living Center and Avantara Clark, and Prairie Lakes Hospice for their wonderful care.
