Alice, age 75, passed away from complications arising from a knee surgery on August 4th at United Hospital in Saint Paul, Minnesota. On August 25, 2025 at 2 pm a funeral service will be held a Furness Funeral Home in Clark, South Dakota followed by burial at the Garden City Cemetery. A time of visitation will precede the service, beginning at 1:30 p.m. An earlier funeral service was held at Jehovah Lutheran Church in St Paul, MN, August 8, 2025.
Alice Kay Alexander was born in Watertown, SD to Margery (nee Headley) Alexander and Merlin (Babe) Alexander. She was raised in Garden City, SD, where her family farmed, and was baptized in the Methodist Church. She enjoyed her dogs, horses, and spending time with her family and her aunt, Alice Headley. Alice graduated from Clark High School in 1968 and was active in declamation winning the South Dakota state poetry division that same year. She went on to attain a degree in education from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, where she met and married John Dalager.
Alice stayed in Aberdeen where she built a family and home, raising her two daughters, Nissa and Erica, and taking care of the many family pets. She worked as a Spanish teacher and an antique dealer; however, she was always a dedicated homemaker. Alice was also a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed gardening and reading, especially to her grandchildren. She was an avid traveler throughout her life. She was particularly fond of England, France, and Mexico, which she visited many times over the years.
After her divorce in 2009, Alice moved to Saint Paul where she resided until her death. She moved to be close to her grandchildren and was very active in their lives. Her grandchildren brought her great joy and she relished the time she spent with them and the family gatherings and holidays that brought everyone together.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Margery and Merlin Alexander. She is survived by her brother Norman Alexander, daughters, Nissa (Kapaljit) Parmar and Erica Dalager (Gary) Reed, her grandchildren Coralina Parmar, Maggie Dalager-Ericsson, Alexander Dalager-Perez, Raphael Dalager-Perez, her step grandchildren Colton (Natasha) Reed, Lauren (Chace) Hein, Jacob Reed, and step-great grandchild Booker Reed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Alice's name are requested for The Garden City Cemetery Association for preservation of the Garden City Cemetery.
