Mr. Alfred J. Hemmingson, age 84, Bradley, died in the Bethesda Home in Webster, SD early Thursday morning, February 12, 2009. He had resided in the home since Monday.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 23, 2009 at 11AM in the St. John's Lutheran Church at Bradley with Minister Marion Grimes officiating. Casketbearers will be his sons, Aaron, Todd, Kurt and Marty. Music will be provided by Susan Olson as pianist and Michael McCarlson as soloist will sing "The Lord's Prayer". Also singing will be the Bradley-Crocker Church Choir and there will be congregational singing. Burial will follow in the Our Savior's East Lutheran Cemetery at Lily. A dinner fellowship time will be held after the interment at the Bradley Community Center.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 22 from 3-5 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and after 10AM at the Church on Monday the 23rd.
He was born, Alfred Johnathan Hemmingson, son of Peter and Nellie (Lien) Hemmingson, on June 29, 1924 in northern Clark County, near Lily. He attended country school north of Bradley and then 1 year of high school at Bradley.
On October 20, 1956 he was united in marriage to Marylin Johnson at the Tabor Lutheran Church near Roslyn. The couple has lived and farmed their entire married life on the farm he bought, northwest of Bradley, since that time.
Besides farming, he also worked for the Chichasha Mobile Home manufacturing in Watertown for 30 years, retiring as a welder. He was a member of the Webster Westerner Saddle Club. Some of his hobbies included pheasant hunting, riding and driving horses and farming. He raised Hereford cattle, and thoroughly enjoyed trail rides. He will long be remembered for his love of teaching his kids how to ride their horses.
He was a member of the Our Saviors Lutheran Church until its closing and then became a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church.
Grateful for having shared his life is his wife of over 52 years, Marylin of Bradley, a daughter, Robin (Rod) York of Henry, sons, Aaron (Connie) of Clark, Todd (Tresa), Kurt (Misty) and Marty (Lindsay) Hemmingson all of Bradley, 11 grandchildren, sisters, Marion (Erlenn) Rasmussen of Sun City, AZ, Hazel Meyer of Bristol, SD and a sister-in-law, Verna Hemmingson of Watertown.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Scott, sisters, Pearl (Leonard) Fuller & Clarice (Jeff) Nelson, a brother, Peter Hemmingson and a brother-in-law, Elmer Meyer.
