Aileen M Overlie

Aileen M. Overlie, age 86, Watertown, the widow of Alfred, died early Saturday morning, February 22, 2020, in a Watertown hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020, at 11AM in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark with The Reverend Richard Fox officiating.  Honorary casketbearers will be Roy and Joyce Brothers, the Happy Bunch Club, Shirley Tipton, Mary Lou Hallberg, Norma Bailey, and Shirley Dreher.  The active casketbearers will be Tom and Jordan Hallberg, Henry Howardson, Mark Kapelle, Dean Koehn, and Larry Wasland. Visitation will be one hour preceding services.  Burial will be in the spring in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark.

She was born on November 22, 1933, at Bradley, the daughter of Paul and Anna (Lambert) Tauscher.  Aileen attended country school in Lincoln Township through the eighth grade and then Clark High School.

On February 26, 1952, she was united in marriage to Alfred Overlie at Mineral Wells, TX, where he was stationed in the United States Army.  Alfred was deployed to Korea and Aileen returned to South Dakota.  When he returned they made their home on the farm in Darlington Township.  To this union a daughter, Betty, was born. They lived on the farm until 2004, when they purchased a home in Watertown.  Alfred died in 2005, after 53 years of marriage.  She continued living in that home until 2015, when she entered Meadow View Assisted Living Center near Watertown. Aileen continued living there until becoming a resident of Jenkins in December of 2019.

Aileen will long be remembered for being an excellent cook and homemaker who kept busy with her home, large yard, and gardening- as well as helping Alfred whenever she could.  She loved taking care of "her" Alfred and Betty! She was a member of the Happy Bunch Club and Clever Chics Extension Club for many years.  She enjoyed playing cards, going to country music jamborees, and in later years watching television, especially the RFD channel.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter Betty of Watertown, SD, and sisters, Laurena Stanton, Port Townsend, WA, Phyllis Gums, Tremonton, UT, and Marge (Ray) Van Well of Watertown, SD, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding in death was her husband Alfred, parents, Paul and Anna, a sister Lois Miller, sister and brother in law, Clara (Overlie) and Jack Bailey, and brothers in law, Virgil Miller, Fleet Stanton, Robert French, and Eddie Gums.
