Agnes I. Board, age 80, Omaha, NE, formerly of the Doland/Raymond communities, died on Friday evening, April 29, 2011 in the Arbor Manor Nursing Home in Fremont, NE. She was the widow of Kenneth Board. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 11AM in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Harold Loewen officiating. Music will be presented by Dorothy Fuller as pianist with congregational singing. They will sing "Nearer My God to Thee", "Rock of Ages" & "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". The casketbearers will be Deb, Tim and Steve Mehlberg, Peggy Hill, Jane, Jennifer and Joshua Coats. Burial will follow in the Prairie Valley Cemetery at Raymond. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home Chapel and will continue at 9AM on Wednesday morning in the funeral home chapel. She was born Agnes Irene Mehlberg on September 17, 1930 in Ash Township, north of Raymond, SD, the daughter of Charles and Irene (Raines) Mehlberg. She attended Ash Consolidated School and then Raymond High School graduating in 1948. Following graduation she went to work for the South Dakota Benevolent Society, an insurance company in Doland. She also served as the secretary for the Doland School and was the clerk for Richfield Township. Agnes also had worked for the US Census Bureau. On July 7, 1962 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Board. To this union a daughter, Darla, was born. Agnes and Kenny lived in Doland, and then moved to a farm near Doland in 1965. They ran the "Rockin "B" Ranch until 1976, when they retired and moved back to Doland. Agnes assisted Kenny owning and operating a lawn mower and garden tractor dealership until 1983. In August of 1983 they moved to Donna, TX. They spent summers in the Doland/Raymond area and also with their daughter, Darla and family. After Kenny's death in 1995, Agnes continued living in Texas until 2000 at which time she returned to Doland. She has lived in Doland until July of 2009 when she was diagnosed with kidney failure at which time she moved to Omaha, NE to be with her daughter and family. Agnes enjoyed being outside working alongside Kenny in about anything he did. She liked to do crafts and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed being with her family and friend and made many long trips to visit Darla and her family when they lived in Minnesota and Nebraska. Agnes was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Raymond where she was baptized, confirmed and married. While living in Doland she attended the United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Grateful for having shared in her life is her daughter Darla (Dale) Langendorfer and their daughter, Kristy all of Omaha, NE, a sister-in-law Eleanor Mehlberg of Raymond, SD and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
